Why Koteries?
The rise of social technology has led to the idea that more is better when it comes to connections. But human beings evolved for millions of years in small communities and we are naturally more able to create deep and lasting connections in smaller groups.
What are “mastermind groups?” Wikipedia says, “A mastermind group is a peer-to-peer mentoring group used to help members solve their problems with input and advice from the other group members. The concept was coined in 1925 by author Napoleon Hill in his book The Law of Success, and described in more detail in his 1937 book Think and Grow Rich.”
Masterminds can be a great way for a small group of people to support and encourage each other. We don’t think these groups are limited to experts (and we don’t think “master” is a term that resonates today).
We are community builders ourselves, and we have seen the power of bringing people together for a common purpose. Our team is made up of people who care deeply about ethics in technology, empowerment of people using our products, and a people-first approach to design.
In our small groups, people have been able to find common ground and connection, and some people have gone on to become each other’s closest friends. We think this could be a model that changes the way we interact online and gives us the opportunity to find connection that we bring into our offline lives, too!
